ART — “The Skull of Sarah Winchester” by Ron Ulincy

Sarah Winchester was convinced that her family was being haunted by the spirits of all those killed by the Winchester rifle. She built a house for herself and the spirits, 24/7, 365 days a year for the next 38 years.

Ron Ulicny is a Portland based artist with an self-described inherent tendency to make “stuff”.

His viscurrealistic fabrications are insanely well-crafted and unique acts of intricate, physical little monuments of art. This one stuck because of the weirdness that is Sarah Winchester– and because it’s a a damn cool skull- but his miniature designs of tiny little things are very smart and incorporate all the miscellaneous mediums you could dream of.  Another personal favorite is Spew, a take on language featuring Scrabble letters.
